How to Care for Your Fast Fashion Clothes… huh?
Watch the video for quick tips on how to care for your clothes.
"But wait," you are saying. "I thought this was a sustainable fashion website?! Why are we talking about caring for fast fashion??"
Chances are there is some fast fashion in most of our closets. Be it a Zara shirt we bought back before we really thought about fashion in a conscious way. Or maybe it’s that H&M skirt we found at the thrift shop. Or maybe, there you were inside Forever 21 and bought it yourself.
This is not to shame anyone for the choices they make or for where they purchase their garments.
How we care for our clothes is an important piece to its longevity, regardless of where you bought it from.
So often we blame the fast fashion brand, the manufacturer, or the low quality fabric, then we chuck the shirt in with the towels - worse with jeans! - on high heat extra dry and expect it to come out looking like new! Jeans will destroy the more fragile fibres in your fast fashion clothes.
With the heavy denim, metal zippers and buttons, the weaker fabrics won’t stand a chance tumbling around together in the machine.
Basic washing care will help increase the longevity of your clothes and keep them out of the landfill.
Wash clothes inside out
Wash clothes in 30° water
Wash on eco setting
Use less laundry detergent
Wash likes with likes (shirts with shirts, jeans with jeans, towels with towels)
Hang to dry when you can
